I had the privilege to spend a week skiing with Steve in Austria twice, as part of the RAF Ski Championships. We skiied as a group most days and Steve was our self appointed 'tail end charlie' and 'safety sweeper.'  He always skiied with a bulging rucksack - bulging because it was full of safety gear, spare clothes in case anyone got cold, emergency rations and a bivvy blanket. He was always the last to set off down a piste - firstly to make sure everyone else was safe and second as he was a demon skiier and faster than everyone else. I'll remember him as always laughing, always concerned for the welfare of others and always the quiet heart of a team, noticing details that others didn't and quietly taking care of them. RIP my friend and love to Lizzie and the family xx
